Meet our team

Daniel Oscar

Founder

Daniel Oscar has spent three decades advancing efforts to make schools places where students want to be, and become who they aspire to be. He now leads Realign Education, a national initiative working across the K–16 ecosystem to challenge the outdated, dominant model of education in the U.S. and catalyze change aligned with the evolving needs of our children and our nation.

Previously, Daniel served as President & CEO of the Center for Supportive Schools, a national organization helping students lead efforts to make their schools safer, more supportive, engaging, and inspiring.

Early in his career, Daniel was part of the founding team of Teach For America and later became the President & Founder of The Learning Project, a not-for-profit school management organization.

He has provided guidance and support to a range of education organizations, including Edison Learning, the Newark Charter School Fund, Children’s Progress, and Amplify. He served for 17 years on the Board of the Northeast Charter Schools Network and was a member of the Partners Collaborative for the Aspen Institute’s National Commission on Social, Emotional, and Academic Development.

Daniel is driven by the gap between what education is and what it could be. His vision has been shaped by listening to students, families, and educators; those hiring young people; well-being practitioners; democracy builders; and by his own learning, parenting, and teaching experiences.

Daniel holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Princeton University.

Rochelle R. Hendricks

Founding Board Member

Rochelle R. Hendricks is a trailblazing education leader with a legacy of statewide and national impact. In 2011, she was appointed as New Jersey’s first Secretary of Higher Education, where she led major reforms to strengthen institutional capacity, promote innovation, and oversee the largest academic merger in U.S. history. She previously served as Acting Commissioner of Education and held multiple senior roles within the New Jersey Department of Education and at Princeton University. Her work was national in scope through partnerships with organizations such as the National Governors Association (NGA) and the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO), and through participation in multiple U.S. Department of Education and White House initiatives.

Before joining as a founding board member, Secretary Hendricks played a critical role in Realign Education’s early development — helping shape convenings, inspiring high-level participation, opening key doors, and championing the mission from the start.

She and Daniel first connected in the early 2000s, when she was overseeing New Jersey’s charter school work and he was founding a charter school in Newark.

Secretary Hendricks remains driven by the same sense of urgency that has fueled transformational work throughout her career. She uplifts emerging leaders, sparks entrepreneurial thinking, and advocates for a fundamentally different and better education experience for all young people. At her core is the belief that profound change is both necessary and possible.

Secretary Hendricks is also an ordained minister with national and international experiences in community development and education programs.
